Spring Lifestyle Challenge

Ssooo....It was brought to my attention we haven't done a lifestyle challenge in a while, sooo....
2018 Music

For those new to the challenges, it isn't to compete against others. It's to push yourself to greater heights, have some company & inspiration along the way, and a few ideas the help get us focused. For example, you can use this waving of the analytical knife to help organize your goals:

1) Exercise - Set a specific plan or goal(s). Keep us posted weekly (or more) on your progress!

2) Creativity - Music, art, writing, acting...set a goal to complete by month's end. Keep us posted!

3) Personal life - Re-affirm your personal relationships, get to that project/chore you've been avoiding, or just read a book you've always wanted to read!

4) Professional life - Set a work goal or change jobs or....just tell us what it is and keep us posted!

I'll post my goals below, and then provide weekly up-dates...

How about YOU?

  2. My exercise goals are off the charts, and doing intense food intake schemes, and minimizing or eliminating alcohol for March. Trying to reach the next level...which in part means maintaining weight range while greatly reducing body fat percentage.

    Creatively...writing new material....
    Personally...well, sorting some things out....
Professionally....a huge list I'll add below soon!

  3. Let's see if I do this right, exercise goals- get to the gym 3-5 days a week at the least. I'm down 105 lbs so I've got about 30 more to my goal. Creativity- more painting of course because painting males me happy. Personal life- more friend time and more date nights, long overdue on both. Professional- changing jobs and looking at going back to school this fall. Just working out the details.

  4. Started the Whole30 challenge today with a colleague, hopefully our encouragement and support of each other will build healthier bodies, minds and unified relationships. It's a bit of a challenge in taking out all sugar (natural or otherwise), grains, and dairy but so far, we've made it half way through the first day without any issues! Very excited about this! Creatively...started working on not one, but two albums! Songs are written or chosen, charts written out and am searching for the right musicians to accompany me! Personally, always building new relationships, new friendships, partnerships...network, network, network! Professionally. Waiting on news of whether or not I'll be in the cut that's sure to come to the education sector here in KY!

  5. As far as exercise goes, it's been a while since I've exercised on purpose! Thanks Amazon, thanks order fulfillment. I'd love to start swimming. Fun fact- I have no technique. I'll have to seek out a swim coach or class. Time to call the local Y! Creatively, I'd like to finish just one new track this month. Lately my time has been dedicated to revamping older recordings- to great success I might add. I'm doing well to turn out masters with more interest and bite, but haven't dedicated a lot of time to sound design or composition. As for my personal goal. I've started reading 12 Rules for Life by Toronto based professor of psychology Jordan Peterson. I hope to start a consistent reading schedule, something to put me on track to finishing this work by the middle of next month. Through just a few youtube lectures, Peterson has done well to help me build courage, as well as reaffirm the value of hard work within me. I'll be seeing him at The Fillmore in Detroit on Sunday, May the 6th. The last person I saw there was deadmau5... guess that's my venue for great Canadians. At any rate, I'd love to ask him a question or two. Professionally, I'm going to start researching record labels. Today, granted you have a personal computer, there's no tangible label function that you couldn't fulfill on your own... I could just use a little boost, a little help or advice on booking, and for people to hear the Frescobaldi tracks that I think are exceptionally well put together. I've started performing weekly at a local open mic, so that's a step in the right direction. I just owe it to myself to perform as much as possible.

That's got it, God help me.

    Thank you Dave!

  6. Whooo! Where do I start? Well, now that my son’s 8 years old I can no longer use him as an excuse to avoid exercising, or getting out there with my singing, or eating better. So yes, I’d like to begin a fitness regimen -perhaps Orange Theory because it’s RIGHT next to my house- would that even help?!? And a yoga class. Creatively, I’d like to record a home demo at least twice a month and get it out on social media. Which hopefully will lead me to the next goal- to perform more in the local music scene. Whether it be open mic nights, or walking door to door, i need to be singing. It’s my happy place. As far as relationships, I’d like to cultivate more girlfriends to chatter and gossip with and to lean on. My husband and I have some wounds from our 10+ year marriage but it’s gotten stronger since we’ve come cross country and hung or hats in this nice new city.
Sounds like all my goals have one thing in common: breathe.
Thanks for letting me share and I support you all! ~liz

  7. Today I realized that my musical goals are pretty diverse... I've sent my music over to one major House label so far, not sure if I'll hear back. Instead of continuing the search I decided to take the day and do a little rebranding. All headers and profile pics are looking cohesive, on bandcamp, soundcloud, etc. It's another thing that a label could do, but I prefer to do myself... because I can. I've started a collaboration with a talented local artist, I don't want to disclose too much- I'll wait until the track is mastered and released. This gives me some production / compositional practice. Also, we're looking at professional studio time to record the vocals. I'm encouraged by it and will count it as my single track for the month. I'm crawling through Peterson's book, it's an intriguing read and relaxing to pick up once in a while. I need to accelerate a bit, as I'll be seeing him on May the 6th. I still haven't called the Y about swim classes. If I'm a good boy I'll see if I can arrange something for the weekend after next.

    Thanks!

  8. UPDATE: Just a little over two weeks into the Whole30 Challenge and am down 7+lbs! Colleague ditched it, but I'm motivated and so happy to be seeing results. Shockingly enough, I seem to enjoy eating less sugar, dairy and grains! Who knew!? :) Creative juices are flowing! Teamed up with a great guitarist to play a few shows as a duet...very excited to be working with him! Continually building relationships, working on some new projects and starting to see them take shape. It's nice to be part of a group who's dedicated to seeing this through! Y'all rock!

  9. Update: joined Orange Theory Fitness and love it! It’s only the end of week 2 but I can see my clothes fit differently. I got a gig this weekend playing at an Open House at a winery and so I’ve been practicing like mad for that, which is leading to some frustrating and a-ha moments, so that’s gotta be growth, right? Hope you’re all doing well on your goals! And thanks again David, for putting this out there! And for pushing me to make this year better than the last. ❤️
